What's in a name?

Why SISU?

SISU is a Finnish word that captures something powerful: unwavering resilience, quiet determination, and the courage to keep pushing, especially when things get tough.

SISU was built on a simple principle: land, equipment, and trust all deserve respect.

I’m a third-generation heavy equipment operator and contractor with more than 23 years of experience in excavation, underground utilities, and construction. Long before inspections, consulting, or owner’s representation became part of the work, I was learning how to run equipment, read ground conditions, and understand how early decisions shape a site for decades.

This isn’t a business built behind a desk.
It’s built in the dirt.

In the context of your construction project management consulting business, SISU represents more than just a name, it’s our philosophy:

  • Staying focused when projects hit bumps in the road

  • Solving complex challenges with resolve

  • Advocating relentlessly for clients' best interests

  • Getting the job done no matter how difficult

It’s the perfect name to represent a team that doesn't quit when it counts.

About the owner

Zachary Thill, PMP

With over 20 years of experience leading complex construction projects, Zac brings a proven track record of success across Utility, Commercial, and Multi-Family portfolio spaces.

As a third generation operator, and seasoned Project Manager, he has managed residential, municipal and commercial design-build initiatives with a sharp focus on driving growth, mitigating risk, and delivering results.

From Field Experience to Project Oversight

My career spans hands-on excavation and construction as well as professional project oversight across complex builds. That combination matters—because most construction problems don’t start above ground.

In 2025 alone, I managed and monitored over $270 million in active construction project value, overseeing scope, sequencing, documentation, and risk across multiple portfolios.

That experience reinforced what decades in the field already taught me: the most expensive mistakes are the ones no one catches early.

I founded SISU to close that gap.
